Electric Fireplace Review: Pros, Cons, and My Honest Thoughts

I know electric fireplaces aren’t for everyone, but I’m absolutely in love with this new addition to our bedroom. I’m curled up beside it, flames flickering while I type away on my blog…pure peace. Here is my honest opinion about my OKD 52″ Farmhouse Electric Fireplace with Mantel.

Pros

It’s relatively easy to assemble

It recommends two people, but I build this by myself in just a few hours. (I took a few breaks. I would say if I worked continuously, it would have taken 2 hours?)

It’s sturdy

This thing is sturdy and heavy. Each piece (aside from the final back piece, which doesn’t matter anyway), is thick and sturdy.

There’s extra storage

I forgot this had storage at the top! It was a pleasant surprise as I was building! It has quite a bit of space there, too.

There are several heating options and the heat blows out pretty strong. And bonus: the fan is pretty quiet.

It is currently summer, but I would imagine it will heat our bedroom with no problem.

I would say the price is a pro

This fireplace is normally $449, but I purchased it during an Amazing Deals Day, so it was significantly cheaper (I think almost half off). Even at $449, that price outweighs my two negatives. (For me at least.)

Neutral colors that match everything

There are four different colors that this fireplace comes in: antique brushed white, antique white, dark rustic oak, light rustic oak. We chose light rustic oak, but I don’t think we could have gone wrong with any color because they are so neutral.

Cons

It’s not real (or faux) stone

For me, this isn’t a huge deal because I will just likely end up painting it. But I thought it would be faux stone instead of a printed laminate. Truthfully, it would be prettier if it was faux stone.

The flames are not very realistic

For me, I just love the flickering of a fireplace…period. I have seen other electric fireplaces with more realistic flames, but these flames are not very realistic if that’s something that is important to you.

Final Verdict: For me, the pros outweigh the cons. I’ll always love the crackle of a real wood-burning fireplace, but since that’s not exactly practical for every room, this one was a great choice for us .

  1. Very helpful honest review. The biggest advantage of electric fireplaces is how easy they are to live with, but the details still matter – flame realism, heat settings, fan noise, and how natural the unit looks in the room.
